A Community Police Officer (CPO) is an officer who works very closely with the community or neighbourhood to which he or she is assigned. There are times when the CPO can be assigned to several communities.
The CPO keeps abreast of what is going on in these areas. The CPO becomes acquainted with the inhabitants and the associations, councils, schools, sports clubs, retailers and other businesses or organizations in those communities or neighborhoods. The CPOs work in close collaboration with all members of their community in effort to solve crime.
