Unfortunate as it may be, burglaries occur on Sint Maarten. A home might seem well protected but too often residents arrive home after work, or perhaps even on waking and discover that their home has been broken into. A burglary has an emotional impact in addition to the impact of the actual sense of violation to home and property.

PREVENTION TIPS BURGLARY

How do I prevent my house from being broken into?

1) Always lock all doors & windows and check it
2) Install lights by all exterior doors.
3) Trim away shrubs from doors and windows
4) Avoid using the doormat or a flowerpot as a ‘hiding place’ for your keys
5) Don’t leave valuable goods visible
6) Install an alarm or camera surveillance system
7) Illuminate your house number, for quicker emergency services response
8) Put on lights when you go out for the evening

See a burglary happening? Call 911!

If you see somebody that’s trying to break into your neighbour’s house, don’t hesitate to call 911. Make sure you give Central Dispatch a good description of the person, so they can provide their colleagues on the street with that information. The chances of an arrest increases enormously when the patrol is provided with the right information.
