The Alpha Team is a multi-disciplinary team. It is a close collaboration formed with representatives of the Police Force of Sint Maarten, Customs Department, the Royal Marechaussee, Coast Guard and the French Police aux Frontiere (PAF).

The work of each team member is based on their specific authorisations. By establishing this team the police also promote information exchange and coordination between parties at the border. The partners include both judicial and non-judicial organisations.

The Alpha team has the following tasks to protect the borders:

  • to understand and detect the various forms of crimes that are committed or can be committed at the border, including Princess Juliana International Airport
  • to profile passengers in order to detect irregularities
  • to understand trends of crime
  • to combat and prevent all forms of (organised) migration crimes, such as human trafficking, human smuggling and document fraud
  • to combat and prevent the transit of drugs and firearms through the borders, including at Princess Juliana International Airport
  • to control and prevent money laundering, and
  • to control and prevent terrorist activities.
