A Special Weapons & Tactics Arrest Team (SWAT), is an elite group of highly skilled police officers specialised in high-risk tasks that deal with very dangerous criminals, who can potentially use a fire arm during arrest.

They are also trained to transport high risk inmates/detainees and may serve as a bodyguard to high risk VIP’s such as Queens, Kings, Presidents, Mayors, Ministers, etc.

SWAT officers carry weapons of a higher calibre than other police officers, such as machine guns, shotguns and sniper rifles.

SWAT officers carefully plan the entry and procedures into a building or vehicle where the criminals and/or hostages are being held. They use tools or equipment such as rappelling gear (ropes, goggles, night vision goggles, tactical shield, flash-bang, ram, smoke grenades, snake cameras, tactical vests and helmets.)

Only qualified police officer are able to join this elite team. They must be capable of handling emotional, mental and physical rigour and able to successfully complete intensive police certified training. In order to qualify for testing, trainees must first acquire the required police experience and serve at least two years as a police officer.

Perhaps the biggest challenge for aspiring SWAT team members is the physical requirements. SWAT officers must be in absolute top physical condition (strength and endurance) and be able to think and act quickly, communicate effectively, be strong in teamwork and be mentally tough.

It takes a tremendous amount of dedication, determination and hard work but if you have a strong sense of focus and self-sacrifice and the ability to muster the mental and physical strength needed to make it to the SWAT team, then the call for the perfect criminology career is open to you.
